Sunday Series Event #4: August 4, 2026
On Tuesday, Sunday Series participated in National Night Out! The event was a huge success, and highlighted the recognition Sunday Series is getting in the Berkeley community. Over the course of 3 hours, more than 60 people attended the evening potluck. Some notable attendees included Berkeley City Councilmember Brent Blackaby and members of the Berkeley Police Department and the Berkeley Fire Department.
The local officials that came showed their presence in the community. Police officers gave a talk regarding safety and the direction the department is headed in; they also stuck around to answer any questions and get to know the people they serve. The fire department members that came also gave back to their community. They arrived with free debris bags to help residents clear unwanted plant debris from their yards.
Additionally, representatives from the Master Gardeners came to our potluck. Naomi and Lillian answered questions throughout the evening regarding plants and backyard planning. They were especially helpful in guiding neighbors towards plant options that are drought-tolerant and in advising residents to plan a layout that is compliant with new Berkeley fire-proofing measures. As a party favor, they gave away succulents for the attendees to plant in their yards.
The festive evening was capped off by a fun raffle for cookbooks! 4 lucky winners got to take home brand new cookbooks provided by a guest at the potluck. Overall, the event marked a milestone for Sunday Series, surpassing over 100 unique attendees across 4 events. The warm energy of the people that filled the venue is exactly what we had envisioned: a vibrant community of people that want to know one another and build a stronger, healthier neighborhood.
